16 Jun A Letter to You!
If you are reading this blog post I want to say THANK YOU! Mybrownsparklez.com has evolved so much in the 4 (maybe 5, who’s counting?) years that I have been blogging. What started as a hobby has turned itself into a creative side hustle that gives me so much joy. Each day I wake up I’m thinking of new ways to add value to the content I create for you guys.
Over the past year and half since I switched my blog’s main focus to sustainability, I’ve noticed a trend. It’s hard to find GOOD, STYLISH, SUSTAINABLE fashion. Yes, I said it. I struggle to find brands that I WANT to buy and feature on my blog. I have to love something to want to buy it. And it has been difficult for me to find brands that share my same aesthetic and fashion taste. There are of course a few exceptions. Every piece you see featured on my blog is because I LOVE it.
I want to admit to falling into the habit of purchasing fast fashion on a few occasions when I can’t find what I’m looking for. I really want to purchase from brands that are doing good things for people and the environment, but what happens when I can’t find styles I like. I would like to apologize in advance if you feel offended or turned off when I post fashion on my blog that isn’t sustainable. I search far and wide for styles that fit my description of sustainable fashion. You will find me showing more attention to notorious fast fashion companies that are making efforts to consider more sustainable practices. While most are a long ways away from true 100% sustainable practices, I believe we need to applaud all efforts no matter how small. It will take a while for the slow fashion movement to gain true momentum. These companies have built their empires on the premise of easy and disposable. Now their challenge is to find a way to still make money while finding creative solutions to this global issue. Can they do it? I think so. And by purchasing from their sustainable collections, we are showing them collectively that we want more sustainable and ethical fashion choices because it is the right thing to do.
I appreciate you watching me evolve on this journey. And I want you to know that I am still committed to championing sustainable fashion whenever possible. If you ever have any questions or comments about my fashion picks, please leave me a comment or send me an email. I love hearing feedback from you! And if you have a particular brand that you adore, do share!
